In case you hadn’t heard, Julianne has been cast as the lead in Fox’s upcoming 2016 adaptation of the movie/musical Grease! Check out the story below to read Julianne’s excitement over being cast as Sandy!

Four words you didn’t expect to read today: “Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo.”

Fox has found some intriguing stars for its live Grease primetime musical. Julianne Hough (Dancing with the Stars, Rock of Ages) will star as summer lover Sandy Olsson and Hudgens (High School Musical, Spring Breakers) has been cast as her scene-stealing bad-girl friend Rizzo. Still not cast: The show’s male lead Danny Zuko.

Fox promises to “re-imagine the hit crossover musical for an entirely new generation.”

“Grease is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer, and I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy,” Hough said. “My siblings and I watched it and played it out over and over when we were kids. This is my dream role and performing it live on television will be one of the most thrilling opportunities I’ve had in my career so far.”

Added Hudgens: “Being Rizzo is something I’ve never imagined, and I love that because it will be a new challenge. She is such an iconic character that continues to transcend generations. I cannot wait to bring her to life on live television. I’m going to be a Pink Lady!”

The event will mark Fox’s entry into the primetime event musical game following on NBC’s hugely successful The Sound of Music Live in 2013 and last December’s rather disappointing Peter Pan. Since 1978’s Grease is a more contemporary title than either of NBC’s shows, plus has a high-school setting and popular songbook, Fox is well positioned to draw a big audience. Casting Grease has been tricky, however, with several big names having been approached over the last several months.

Julianne did a little bathroom photoshoot for the new Venus Swirl and looked adorable, as usual!

Julianne was out to promote the new Venus Swirl on various media outlets today, so we’re currently gathering photos to upload to the gallery and posting the videos here and on our Twitter.

In the first video, Julianne visits People Magazine and shows off some of her ‘bad dance moves’ including the shopping cart, the shower, and the sprinkler. She talks a little about what judging this season of Dancing with the Stars was like and how it’ll be different without Derek there next season! Julianne also talks about the Venus Swirl and the contest they were holding today to find the best Swirl!

Julianne also stopped by Access Hollywood for a quick interview! Here she talks more about Derek leaving the show next season and jokes that she probably ‘intimidated him’ too much.

As for what the judges’ table will look like following Len’s departure, Julianne said it’s up in the air.

“We haven’t really talked about that, I’m not really sure. I just know that I’m going to be back this season, which will be exciting. It kind of took me a few weeks to settle into it and now I’m like, ‘I got this!'” she said.

Adding, “Len is amazing and he makes the show what it’s been. I don’t know what’s gonna happen, if they’re gonna fill a fourth judge, or if we’re just going to have to turn up our grumpiness.”

Check out the video below!

Finally, Julianne also stopped by Good Day New York to promote the #MoveLikeNoOther contest and chat a little about her new movie – with an unofficial, working title of ‘Dirty Grandpa’ (it will probably be renamed later) – and working with Robert DiNero!

Hough is looking for the best swirl or dance move. Contestants have registered for a chance to create a dance step and meet Hough at the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater.

Once she’s done with that, it’s back to the movie set.

“We’ve only done a couple of days of shooting, but we got a whole month and a half of shooting. It comes out next year,” said Hough.

As you may have seen on Twitter earlier this week, Julianne has joined the cast of a new movie – Dirty Grandpa – starring Zac Efron, Robert DiNero, and Aubrey Plaza! The plot revolves around Efron’s character, an uptight young man, being tricked into driving his grandfather, a perverted former Army general, to Florida for spring break days before his wedding. No word yet on Julianne’s role in the film, but she was on set earlier this week in Atlanta for filming!

I have updated our gallery with over 100 new HQ stills from Julianne’s time judging on this season’s Dancing with the Stars! Each set is separated by week and includes both photos at the judging table and behind the scenes photos of Julianne and her co-judges. Check them out below and let us know what you think!

On December 12th, Julianne and Derek Hough were spotted in Boca Raton, Florida, attending a seminar by life-coach Tony Robbins. It’s the ‘Date with Destiny’ seminar Julianne had previously spoken about attending in a Redbook article earlier this year. Check out a few photos of Julianne arriving below!
